For forty-four years, thousands of the best hula halau from all across
the Hawaiian islands, mainland, and Japan have been invited to the
prestigious Merrie Monarch Festival. Dancers who are fortunate enough to
perform at this annual event perpetuates an important cultural
tradition that celebrates and honors their ancestors. Hundreds make the
trek to Hilo, Hawaii every year to wintess in person the magnificence of
the dance and storytelling. Captured on four DVDs are the exciting
performances and stunning pageantry of this year's 44th Annual Merrie
Monarch Festival; the spectacular kahiko (ancient) and superb auana
(contemporary) from each halau and the elegant Miss Aloha Hula
