#R88 This Taiaha is a beautifully hand carved replica Maori weapon, made from the native Tawa tree of New Zealand. The Maori Taiaha (pronounced Tie-uh-ha) is a pre-European hand-to-hand combat weapon. Despite looking rather like a spear, it is more accurately described as a pointed staff. The pointed end is an exquisitely carved head that has paua shell eyes and an extended, defiant tongue. Just like the traditional Taiaha, this authentic replica is carved the same on both sides. Feathers decorate the shaft just below the head. The middle section of the Taiaha, the shaft, is slightly oval. The lower section is flattened and intricately carved on both sides with Maori Koru patterns. The full size Taiaha measures about 57" long x 2-1/4" wide at the flattened end. Hand carved details may vary slightly.
